Magnified sights vs. laser sights, which one is for you?

Magnified sights vs. laser sights, which one is for you?

When it comes to owning a gun, an individual doesn’t need to think much before committing to the act. There aren’t a lot of reasons why you would want to own a gun but rest assured, our glorious second amendment does allow the average Joe to own a gun at their own risk. But if owning a gun were enough, then we wouldn’t need to visit shooting ranges to perform target practice and that neatly brings us into the case of two gun attachments that aims to help in that regard.

There are a number of sight attachments that you can attach to different types of guns and improve upon their characteristics, especially when aiming. Considering that the average Joe owns a hand gun of some sort, the popular options are limited to just two contenders – a) Reflex sights and b) laser sights. Both of these attachments are used for a wide array of applications but if you are the average Joe with no knowledge of what these are and which one you should pick (if at all), it can get pretty confusing really fast. So let’s quickly look at some characteristics for both magnified reflex sights and laser sights so you can have a better idea of both the products.

  1. Accuracy: Both of these are incredibly accurate when it comes to close quarters, especially reflex sights because of their faster target acquisition in close quarters. These can be readily used with not just guns but with rifles and shotguns too. The reason for their imminent popularity is that, reflex sights allow you to really fine tune the characteristics of the crosshair that is displayed onto the viewfinder. But that doesn’t meant that lasers are bad at close quarters, oh no, especially for close quarter with restricted lights laser attachments take the cake because you can be incredibly precise about your aim, both over close quarters and medium distances.
  2. Cost: This can vary a lot depending on the company that is selling it to you. There are a lot of options that you can browse through and with increasing features, the price will further hike. But the silver lining here is that you might not need to spend all that much on a pair of sights as you can get a few best affordable red dot sight for much less from some companies that actually care about your money.
  3. Reliability: Both of these are battery operated and like with all things that run on battery, these are bound to run out as well. But that doesn’t mean that the product itself becomes a part of the landfill as the batteries can be swapped out for newer ones. Lasers in particular drain their batteries really fast but that is to expected because they do offer a much tighter aim over the entire spectrum.

Conclusion:

Reflex sights are best when used at close ranges with adequate amount of light because they do provide much better target acquisition in broad daylight. However lasers are best used when the light is low because you can have a really tight aim over targets in those conditions.
